I Didn’t Even Notice When You Left – 29.12

“I Didn’t Even Notice When You Left” is a production about the moment when the ties that have held us together break, and what comes next is as dim as an extinguished star. On stage are people whose conversations flow between everyday longings and deranged theories, unwashed windows and adultery, funeral gatherings and communists, economic growth and the Titanic. This is the kind of production that more sophisticated brothers might describe as “a wild collage”, “sick rampaging” or “a melancholy reflection”. The production draws on Cristi Puiu’s film “Sieranevada”, Bora Ćosić’s novel “My Family’s Contribution to the World Revolution”, and elsewhere too.

In Lauri Lagle’s production, the cast is Marika Vaarik, Eva Koldits, Rea Lest, Simeoni Sundja, Sander Roosimägi, Alex Paul Pukk, Joonas Koff, Uku Pokk and Joosep Lõhmus. Lauri Lagle’s productions have moved along the boundary between the poetic and the everyday. The actors’ performances have emerged from months of rehearsals focused not so much on the question of “role” as on directing energy, opening up meaning, mutual perception and creating a sense of ensemble. Lagle’s productions are unafraid of lyrical tones, but always keep their footing on the bracing, calming ground of everyday life.

With Ekspeditsioon’s largest cast to date, this production brings numerous grotesque, absurd, nonsensical and abstract scenes to the stage, showing the kaleidoscopic nature of a hysterical moment. In contrast to Chekhovian lethargy, the characters in this production are full of intense desires, loud demands, endless dissatisfaction and a need to get something at any cost. But what, they no longer know.
