The concert features arrangements for ensemble of well-known harpsichord works by Johann Sebastian Bach, as well as his sonata for harpsichord and viola da gamba. Why did Novaya Gollandiya decide to arrange these works? The harpsichord’s distinctive, intimate sound is somewhat reminiscent of a black-and-white film. The ensemble’s musicians wanted to “add colour” to this film—to bring new shades of colour, expressiveness and variety of timbres to the music.
