The permanent exhibition at Koidula Museum introduces the lives and work of two great figures, Johann Voldemar Jannsen (1819–1890) and Lydia Koidula (1843–1886), in the context of the Estonian National Awakening. The house, where they once lived, is also of cultural and historical significance as a school for rural people and the editorial office of the weekly newspaper Perno Postimees. The permanent exhibition is complemented by a temporary exhibition hall on the museum’s second floor, where visitors can also view a retrospective of Koidula productions and television programmes, and read the newspapers Postimees and Pärnu Postimees. The Koidula Museum house includes a large garden behind the building, which is only a small part of the grounds of the former Ülejõe school farm. The garden features an exploratory learning trail for young Lydia, or Lolla, and an outdoor stage. Art and history exhibitions are held year-round in the gallery next to the outdoor stage.
