In Narva, there are streets you can walk only in your memories. The bench where your mother sat is still there, someone’s voice waits in a telephone booth, and plums ripen in a garden whose taste you remember all your life. Everyone has their own Narva. Sometimes, one chance remark is enough to find yourself in someone else’s.
“The Invisible City” is a production based on a play by Narva playwright Maksim Belozjorov, in which stories and reflections on the city take an unexpected artistic form. Here, time allows people from different centuries to find themselves side by side, and a chance encounter can weave the destinies of strangers together. Alongside tenderness there is irony; alongside grief over loss, hope. And love for the past gives rise to a debate: how much of the past do we need in order to live in the present?
This is a personal story about Narva and the people who make us call certain places our own. About a city that changes as long as we remember. And about us, changing along with it. With love, from Narva residents to Narva residents.
