Glass Mosaic Lantern Workshop

A glass mosaic lantern workshop will take place at ïque mosaic studio on 20–22 November. Over the past winters, dozens of lanterns have been made in the studio, each magical in its own way. You can admire the finished lanterns in a studio Instagram clip: https://www.instagram.com/p/DIZTBLftQDs/

In the workshop, we’ll design a composition using recycled coloured stained glass and create a lantern finished with glass mosaic.

By the end of the workshop, participants will:
* handle and cut glass
* arrange glass pieces into a composition
* become familiar with the tools used in glass mosaics
* leave with a glass mosaic lantern made with their own hands

Schedule

Friday, 20 November, 17:00–20:00
We’ll get to know the materials and choose a suitable lantern blank. We’ll plan the design, choose the glass, practise cutting it and begin arranging the pieces.

Saturday, 21 November, 15:00–18:30
We’ll start laying the glass mosaic according to the design and cut the glass.

Sunday, 22 November, 10:00–13:00
We’ll finish arranging the pieces, grout and finish the lantern. We’ll light a candle or LED lights inside it and admire the result.

The workshop fee includes all necessary tools and protective equipment, a wide selection of coloured glass and a lantern blank. On the way home, the workshop participant will be accompanied by the glow of a glass mosaic lantern laid out in their favourite colours.

The workshop is led by mosaic artist and art educator Salme Vabar. It takes place at ïque mosaic studio, in Krulli House, at Kopli 70a.
