The name Järvi is undoubtedly most associated with the great conductors Neeme, Paavo and Kristjan, but the Järvis—a musical dynasty—are actually a much larger family. They include many performing musicians who play different instruments and regularly perform as soloists, chamber musicians and members of various orchestras, both in Estonia and around the world. Taking the stage this evening are the descendants of Neeme’s brother, conductor Vallo Järvi’s younger son, the late cellist Teet Järvi. What makes the family especially remarkable is that all seven members are performing musicians. Their spouses are also outstanding musicians.
Mari Järvi, pianist and organist, is the mother of the Järvi family’s five musician children. She has performed regularly in Estonia and many European countries as a chamber musician, organist and piano accompanist at numerous international competitions and masterclasses. Cellist Marius Järvi has won several competitions in Estonia and abroad, including the B. Heran Competition in the Czech Republic and first prize at the Con Brio competition in Estonia. He has performed as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral soloist, and has also taken part in the renowned Kronberg Cello Festival. He currently works at the Estonian National Opera.
Violinist Miina Järvi has also received prizes at various competitions and performed as a soloist with renowned artists such as Midori and Jaakko Kuusisto. She has served as the main organiser of several international festivals. Pianist Mihkel Järvi has won the L. Madetoja Piano Competition in Finland several times and received a diploma at the C. Czerny Piano Competition in Prague. Madis Järvi, violist and composer with the Estonian National Opera, wrote a piece especially for this concert tour; it will receive its world premiere at this concert. Oboist Ingely Laiv-Järvi will be familiar to many from the programme Klassikatähed. She also performs regularly as a soloist and chamber musician, and works as principal oboe at the Estonian National Opera.
The concert will feature classical music performed by both small and large ensembles. Making music brings the Järvi family great joy; it is part of their lives, and they very much wish to share that joy with their audience.
