Father’s Day is a great time to develop design and craft skills together with your child. To mark the occasion, a Father’s Day workshop will take place on 8 November from 11:00 to 14:00 at the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design.
Product designer Veiko Liis came up with the chair while living in Berlin, which is also where its name comes from. DIY is short for “Do It Yourself”. The central idea is to make things yourself rather than buy them or have them made. At the workshop, participants will learn how to make the chair, and an adult and child can create their own “DIY BERLIN” chair under the designer’s guidance and take it home to sit on.
The workshop uses a saw and a cordless drill. Safe handling of tools will be discussed at the start, but everyone is responsible for their own safety.
The workshop lasts up to 3 hours, but those who finish sooner may leave early and explore the exhibitions. The Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design’s permanent exhibition “An Introduction to Estonian Design” includes, for example, a milk carton holder designed by Veiko Liis and the LIFT shelf, which received a commendation in the 2019 German Design Awards.
The workshop ticket price covers 1 adult and 1 child.
