Practical information seminar for teachers: “E-Cigarettes: Effects and Risks for Young People”
E-cigarettes and other nicotine products have become increasingly visible among young people, and teachers encounter the topic in the classroom, in their work as class teachers, and in everyday conversations with students. How can you talk about vaping in a way that young people will listen? Which facts can you rely on? And what can schools do to prevent it?
We invite teachers to a practical information seminar hosted by the Estonian Health Museum, combining the latest scientific information, expert knowledge, and practical recommendations for schoolwork.
The seminar will take place online on 5 November from 15:00 to 16:30. Participants will be sent the link to join the day before the seminar.
Sharing their knowledge and practical recommendations:
Agne Kivisaar from the National Institute for Health Development will give an overview of current e-cigarette use among young people and its main trends, and discuss what teachers and schools can do to prevent it.
Dr Pille Mukk, pulmonologist and Head of the Internal Medicine Clinic at the North Estonia Medical Centre Foundation, will explain the evidence on how e-cigarette use affects young people’s bodies, and how nicotine and aerosol affect the respiratory tract, lungs, and developing body in particular.
Dr Anastassia Kuldmaa, dentist and Medical Director of the Tallinn Dental Clinic Foundation, will discuss the effects of e-cigarettes on the oral mucosa, teeth, and gums, as well as the oral health risks associated with vaping.
You’ll leave the seminar with up-to-date knowledge, reliable facts, and practical tools to support discussions of e-cigarettes and nicotine products at school. Be sure to explore the content and learning materials for the educational project “Pilt selgeks!” (“Get the Picture!”).
Please note that the online seminar will be recorded.
A seminar for a limited number of participants will also take place in person at the Estonian Health Museum on 29 October from 13:00 to 15:00.
The Estonian Health Museum is open Tuesday–Sunday, 10:00–18:00.
