Kaisa Ling & Rene Paul | Tartu Christmas Concert

Kaisa Ling and Rene Paul invite you to spend an evening during the Christmas season with music, stories about life and everything around it, and a good dose of mischief.

Kaisa: “Should we tell people what happens at the concert?”
Rene: “We probably should.”
Kaisa: “Well… you play the piano.”
Rene: “Definitely. Sometimes I even sing.”
Kaisa: “I sing too.”
Rene: “Hopefully.”
Kaisa: “And Christmas songs?”
Rene: “There might be one or two by accident.”

That’s more or less how it goes! The set includes songs from Kaisa Ling Thing’s albums, a few gems from the bottom of the drawer, and, for the holidays, a little something with a Christmas feel. They’ll bring a piano, microphones, glittering costumes, and as much Christmas spirit as can reasonably fit into one evening.

Kaisa: I sing about things people sometimes don’t dare talk about. That way, we can shake all those taboos loose.
Rene: I play the piano as if I had a bone to pick with it.

This isn’t a concert where you have to sit quietly with your back straight and clap politely at the right moment. You can laugh, nod along, sing along, and sometimes even get a little sentimental. Christmas is just around the corner, after all.

Kaisa Ling is Estonia’s finest (albeit only) mischief-blues lady. Sharp humour, admonishments and teasing go hand in hand with her anguish over the state of the world. Rene Paul is a pianist and comedian who takes the stage knowing that if the piano isn’t smoking and the audience isn’t laughing, the evening hasn’t really begun. When the mayhem and musical antics briefly subside, Rene’s bluesman’s soul comes to light, moving even the toughest men to sigh with emotion.

They don’t know exactly what will happen that evening themselves. But you can be fairly sure there’ll be music and laughter, and somewhere amid it all, the real Christmas spirit will sneak in.

Kaisa: “Have we said it all now?”
Rene: “I think so.”
Kaisa: “Are we bringing Christmas peace, too?”
Rene: “Let’s not overdo it.”
Kaisa: “All right, we’ll tell the rest on stage.”
