They met in a dance class. It soon became clear that as dancers, they were more or less equally hopeless. He loses the rhythm and blames her. She is convinced that he is the one who gets the rhythm wrong. They are more of a distraction to the other people in the class than a help to their own learning. So one day they decide to practise on their own. At his place. By the book. Following the instructions to the letter. What could go wrong? Almost everything.

Instead of the right steps, there are endless arguments. Instead of finding the rhythm, they work through their relationship. They quarrel and make up, take offence, lie to each other, boast about their children and grandchildren, and try to seem younger, more successful and happier than they really are. And behind all these funny squabbles, something gradually begins to emerge—something much harder to admit than a lack of musical ear: they simply don’t want to be alone anymore.

This is a comedy about age, loneliness, a man and a woman, and the fear of looking ridiculous—and about how you can sometimes meet your person just when you’ve given up waiting. It’s also about how you don’t actually have to know how to dance the most important dance of your life.
