About the workshop
The Bamboo workshop is a blend of unique Chinese ink-painting techniques and meditation, during which you will create a one-of-a-kind bamboo painting.
As a gift, you’ll receive a brush and magical water paper that you can write on and practise with endlessly!
Thanks to its resilience and flexibility, bamboo has acquired deep symbolic significance in Chinese and Japanese culture. Confucius said of it, “Flexible bamboo is stronger than the resisting oak.” Its hollow stem symbolises an open mind, sincerity and tolerance, while its flexibility and strength represent determination, reliability and perseverance. Each mindful brushstroke helps these virtuous qualities take root in us.
In this workshop:
* Learn about the importance of bamboo painting in China and Japan
* Discuss the meaning and application of Confucius’s quote
* Paint on rice paper and learn to use a Chinese pointed brush
* Learn techniques and tips for freehand bamboo painting
* Learn about emptiness as an essential element of composition
* Rest your mind and practise your brushwork
* Create a unique bamboo painting of your own, a reminder on your home wall that strength lies in the ability to be flexible
