Taavi Peterson: “Vaiki kui võid” — Urmas Alender 73

The concert tour “Vaiki kui võid,” dedicated to the 73rd anniversary of Urmas Alender’s birth, brings Urmas’s songs to Estonian churches in the run-up to Christmas! The programme features a carefully selected best-of from Urmas Alender’s work, including songs from the band Ruja and his solo repertoire.

The churches’ solemn atmosphere and distinctive acoustics create a rare setting for these songs. Taavi Peterson does not try to imitate Urmas Alender. He sings the songs in his own way, with his powerful, distinctive voice and acoustic guitar style. The result is more than simply performing Alender’s songs: familiar pieces take on a new life while remaining true to their era and original spirit.

A recent concert review noted that Peterson weaves himself into Alender’s songs so naturally that they begin to sound like his own. With some songs, one may even have the strange and moving feeling that Alender is present again for a moment.

Taavi Peterson became known to a wider audience in the first season of “Eesti otsib Superstaari” in 2007, where he placed third. He has shared the stage with Rein Rannap, Jaanus Nõgisto and other Ruja members, and has been a fan of the band’s work for over 20 years.

Come and spend an evening with Urmas’s songs. Forget everyday life and surrender to the embrace of beautiful music and poetry.

Concert duration: approximately 75 minutes, with no intermission.

“In the froth of days and in Christmas’s peace too, remember me for a moment. In the rush of time, through laughter and tears, you had a friend who loved you.”
