Join us for a play and an evening of Japanese theatre. At the beginning of the evening, we’ll talk about Japanese culture in the theatre’s magical atmosphere. You’ll see authentic objects brought from Japan, try unusual sweets, get answers to your questions about travelling to this unique country, and learn many interesting facts about manga, kabuki, geisha and samurai. The evening is hosted by Marina Dunaeva, a Tallinn guide and Japan tour creator.

Afterwards, you’ll see “When I Become a Samurai 2” by the Flying cow theatre. This is our second play inspired by the samurai code of bushido, and it explores two new principles—moderation(節)and courage(勇). Two Japanese folktales, like waves rising from the depths, pose difficult questions: How can we find balance in our desires and avoid losing ourselves in a world of temptations? What is true courage—a battle with an external enemy, or a meeting with the one within?

The audience is guided through these stories by spirits and creatures from Japanese legends—Tengu and other guardians, who may show the way or put those who follow it to the test. The play is steeped in the atmosphere of Japanese culture, music and poetry. Movement, elements of acrobatics and martial arts create a world that immerses you in Japanese folktales and legends.

Duration: 50 minutes. Ages 6+.

Are you ready to discover your samurai spirit? See you at the theatre!
