Kirill Lissijenko, piano.

Kirill Lissijenko’s ambitious plan to present Frédéric Chopin’s complete piano works to audiences reaches its tenth concert in November. Chopin’s nocturnes are among the most intimate and poetic works of Romantic piano music. The programme includes nocturnes from Opp. 15, 32, 55 and 62, spanning the composer’s creative journey from his early period to maturity and revealing the development of his expressive style. The bel canto-like elegance of the early nocturnes grows in the later works into increasingly free and contemplative musical speech.

Frédéric Chopin (1810–1849) was a composer and pianist of Polish origin, known above all for his lyrical and emotional piano music. He spent much of his life in France, where most of his works were also composed. As a pianist, Chopin performed mainly in salons, avoiding large concert halls. His music combines influences from Polish folk music with the expressiveness of the Romantic era. Beautiful melodies, complex harmonies and refined dynamics make his technically demanding works deeply expressive for the performer. Chopin’s life was shortened by health problems, but as one of the most influential composers of the 19th century, he left an indelible mark on music.

Kirill Lissijenko began studying piano at the age of 11 and completed children’s music school in four years. At the Georg Ots Music School, he studied piano with Ia Remmel and Ralf Taal. In 2010, he graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, where his teachers were Prof. Lilian Semper, Irina Zahharenkova and Age Juurikas. In 2016, he completed a master’s degree at the Sibelius Academy in Hui-Ying Liu-Tawaststjerna’s piano class, as well as a master’s programme in chamber music at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under the supervision of Matti Reimann. He has also furthered his studies in masterclasses led by leading pianists such as Tamas Ungar, Rolf Plagge, Cyprien Katsaris and Daniel Pollack. He has performed successfully at the Helmi Valtman Foundation competition and the Con Brio competition in Tallinn. In 2015, he received second prize at the international Alion Baltic competition.

Kirill regularly performs in Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Italy and Russia, both as a soloist and chamber musician. His ensemble partners have included Nadia Kurem, Sigrid Kuulmann, Silvia Ilves, Aare Tammesalu, Kristina Kriit, Toomas Vavilov, Neeme Ots, Andre Cebrian Garea and Maria Veretenina. He studied harpsichord with Reinut Tepp and Imbi Tarum and has also worked as a member of a baroque ensemble. He has worked as a piano accompanist in the string department of the Georg Ots Music School. As an orchestral soloist, he has performed, among others, with the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre Symphony Orchestra conducted by Paul Mägi and in Italy with the Master Orchestra conducted by Sergio Baietta. He is also the artistic director of the MozartFest festival in Tallinn.
