XI Tartu Folk

The main day of the XI Tartu Folk takes place on 14 November at Vanemuine Concert Hall. At the festival gala concert, audiences can enjoy diverse performances by guest groups inspired by the traditional songs, dances and instrumental music of their home regions. Performing are folk groups from the Baltic and Nordic countries: Ung í Dansi (Faroe Islands), Dolija (Lithuania), Skandinieki (Latvia), Uijee! (Estonia, Muhu), Folklooriklubi Maatasa (Estonia, Tartu). Tartu folk dance groups will also perform at the concert. While folklore communities present their traditions as authentically as possible, the task of the folk dance groups participating in the gala is to show how tradition has inspired choreographers (as well as musicians) in the present day. After the gala concert, everyone is invited to an international dance club, where the headline performers and several musicians and dance callers from across Estonia will play music and introduce dances. At the same time, visitors can rest their feet and sip tea while listening to enjoyable small traditional music ensembles at the Café Stage. An ethnodisco starting at midnight will bring the evening to a close with the rhythms of the best traditional music DJs.
